It was 20 years ago.....

IT WAS TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY..... Well, maybe not to the exact day, and no they didn't produce the Sgt Pepper's album but.... amazing as it seems 'Rainbows Trees and Tambourines' and 'Bop in the Bath' are 20 years old this year! And it's worth noting that allowing for new recording technology, these songs have stood the test of time. 'Songs like 'Fuzzy the Clown', 'The Crazy Conductor', Rainbows, Trees and Tambourines', 'Let's Sing all Together', 'The Melbourne Train' and 'The Aussie Rock' are still as popular today as they were when they were first heard - on cassette tape back in '92! Of course since then Susie and Phil have written and recorded hundreds of songs with 'AlphabetZ' being their latest Early Childhood album, and they plan to continue writing, recording and sharing their music for many years to come. Here's to the next twenty years of wonderful music making!

A FREE song for you!

Speaking of Facebook, would you like a FREE download of one of our songs? Last edition we featured 'Felix the Frog' from our latest Early Childhood album 'AlphabetZ'. This edition we are featuring a track called 'Oscar the Octopus' which made the semi finals of the prestigious International Songwriting competition.

Here is what the judges had to say:

"We are pleased to inform you that the song "Oscar the Octopus", entered into the Children's Music category, has been selected as a semi-finalist in the 2011 International Songwriting Competition (ISC). With over 16,000 entries in ISC 2011, this is an incredible accomplishment, and we would like to sincerely congratulate you on this achievement! Although the song was not selected as a finalist, because of the increased competitiveness this year, the status of semi-finalist is an exceptionally noteworthy achievement and one you should be very proud of."

Click here to go to our Facebook page and simply click on the big 'V' (above Music store), then click on FB LIKE FOR DOWNLOAD and the song will automatically download. Be sure and let us know what you think of it!

What's been happening

Susie and Phil have been making merry music all around as they have presented a series of Early Childhood evening PLAYshops in the 'burbs and the countryside. If you would like to know how to attend a PLAYshop for free see the header 'FREE PLAYshop opportunity in this enews.

In early April Susie and Phil flew up to Moree in regional NSW to spend 3 days working with primary age kids from the region. They did an Artists in School program in Moree, then in Bingara and finally in Peter Allen country - Tenterfield.

Overall they worked with over 250 kids and a good time was had by all.

Let the 'Good Times Roll'

As we have mentioned in previous editions of Musicnotes, Susie and Phil are in a retro rock band called 'Good Times Roll' or GTR for short. Playing hits of the 50's 60's and 70's with flair, fun and fabulous vocals GTR really do let the good times roll!

And for those of you in Melbourne the good news is you can see them live at the Hampton RSL on Sat May 5 and Sat Jun 16. A fun night of golden oldies (and I don't just mean the band members!) so come along and dance the night away. GTR also features well known conductor and Director of the 'Young Voices of Melbourne' choirs - Mark O'Leary, on bass, the fabulous Russ Castleman on lead guitar and vocals, and drummer extraordinaire, Simon Williams. Bring your friends and make your own table and help to support live music for old rockers like Susie and Phil. Bookings always a good idea.

What people are saying

I did 'The Fireman's BBQ' with my Preppies today, played the instruments, did the voices, used the BIG book etc. One little girl sitting on the floor in front of me just looked up and said quietly and gently, "Ms Arney, I LOVE this story"! Thank you!

Sue Arney, teacher, Melbourne

Hi Susie and Phil,

I don't believe we've ever met, but I just wanted to say thank you for your music. I love singing, and when I was in primary school my mother (Martina Golding, who is a primary school music teacher) had a CD of your songs that I loved! So much so that when I was twelve years old I insisted to our music teacher Pauline Greaves that we should write our annual school musical (Roslyn Primary School in Geelong) based around your music. She relented, and we did! It was called "Cool School"...

... Anyway I saw that you were friends with Mum on facebook and just had to let you know that your work is appreciated. Sometimes it's nice to be told, right?

Cheers, Sarah Golding, teacher, Victoria

Jan 2012 – about the Orff level 1 course

Susie, this course was literally life changing for me! I can't thank you enough. Not only has it set me up with content and methodolgy for my new role of choir director at Merri Creek primary school this year; but it has brought together all of the things I have been doing for years -the instrumental work, the creative dance ,the yoga, the singing AND the teaching in the most marvellous way! I loved every minute it!

Heartfelt thanks,

Jillian Gundermann – student ACU, Melbourne
